WE ARE USUALLY ASKED ABOUT

What is an all natural pillow?

By being all natural, it means the pillow is made without chemicals or synthetics. In our case, our pillows are strictly plant-based as we do not use animal products either.

Why use an all-natural pillow?

Synthetic pillows are filled with dozens of chemicals like formaldehyde and polyurethane. The chemicals used to create most common pillows are associated with health conditions such as cancer,  asthma, nervous system disorders, and hormone disorders, amongst others. They also provide the perfect environment for mold, fungi and dust mites to develop.

We manage to keep comfort natural, without the use of harmful chemicals.

Why the name SkinnyPillow?

The pillow is not skinny in the literal sense. The “Skinny” is a modern expression which means the clear truth without the excess. We felt connected to this term since the objective of SkinnyPillow is to give you natural comfort, without the excess chemicals found in most common pillows.

What are the measures of a SkinnyPillow?

  • King SkinnyPillow: ~18” by 36”
  • Queen SkinnyPillow: ~18” by 30”
  • Standard SkinnyPillow:  ~16” by 25”.
  • Petite SkinnyPillow: ~12” by 18” inches.

SkinnyPillow’s measures might slightly vary since each pillow is handmade.

What is the weight of a SkinnyPillow?

The weight of the pillow can range from 1.2 to 2 pounds depending on the level of firmness and size that you choose.

What are the levels of firmness?

The level of firmness is the amount of fill (all natural kapok cotton *see below). We currently offer Ultra-soft, Soft, and Medium.

How do I know what is the best level of firmness for me?

A good starting point is to consider the firmness of other pillows you’ve used. Generally, the softer the pillow, the lower the elevation of the neck.

Should I buy a Skinnypillow for my child?

Skinnypillow was actually inspired by the idea of children sleeping on common pillows associated with harmful chemicals. Particularly, the frequency with which they interact with pillows over the course of their life (365 days a year, ~8-10 hours each night, for years-on-end). The interaction with pillows creates a chemical brew (off-gassing).

Given the higher susceptibility of less developed immune systems (see link below), we created a generally safer option. That said, every human is unique, and while we cannot guarantee the absence of disease or reaction to any product, we strive to be free from chemicals commonly associated with harmful medical conditions.

What does the legal label tag on your pillow indicate?

SkinnyPillow is consists of 100% Kapok fill and 100% Organic cotton covers.

What is Kapok?

Kapok, known as the “King of cotton”, is a plant-based ultra-soft cotton-like fiber that comes from Ceiba trees. Kapok is known to be the lightest natural fiber in the world. SkinnyPillow’s kapok is sourced directly from Indonesia.

Why Kapok?

Besides being biodegradable making it environmentally friendly, Kapok is water repellant, light-weight, and considered hypoallergenic.

Fun Kapok Fact: The Ceiba Tree, from which Kapok is harvested, is also found in North and South America. It was the most sacred tree of the Mayas. It was considered a symbol of the Universe as this massive tree touched three levels of the Earth: the deep underworld, the middle world, and upper world.

Where are the SkinnyPillows made?

We are proud to say our SkinnyPillows are handmade in New Jersey, U.S.A. While other pillow companies outsource their labor, it was important to Skinnypillow that we support the local economy, tapping into a cherished manufacturing skill-set that seems to have eroded over the last few decades for cheaper labor abroad.

How are SkinnyPillows made?

Simple: We harvest the Kapok fill in small farms in Indonesia, it is then shipped in compact bales directly to our factory in New Jersey. We then decompress the kapok by hand, wreath the specific amount into our breathable organic cotton covers which are cut and sewed in our factory. As a final step, they are closed, sealed in a protective layer, and shipped free of charge to the customer.

Can I machine wash my SkinnyPillow?

Due to the use of all-natural kapok, it is not recommended to wash a SkinnyPillow. Unlike other washable pillows, Skinnypillow is not made from/with chemicals designed to preserve the look, shape, and feel after washing and drying. However, we offer a 100% organic pillow cover, which can be washed with all-natural detergents, and also help extend the life of your Skinnypillow. If you do not purchase the cover, we suggest following the instructions below.

It is important to consider that the lifetime of synthetic pillows are from 6 to 8 months, while all-natural pillows can last an impressive figure of anywhere from 7 to 10 years.

What can I use and how to clean my SkinnyPillow?

Most of the stains can be cleaned with common household ingredients. Cold water, isopropyl alcohol, or all-natural detergents on specific spots should do the trick. Never use bleach on your pillow.

Try to keep the ingredients you use for the cleaning as natural as possible. Some examples of natural cleaning products brands are Ecos, Mrs. Meyer’s, Better Life and Eco me. If you need to use stronger detergents just make sure to try it first on a small spot.

Why use the SkinnyPillow Extra Organic Cover?

A SkinnyPillow can be used with any cover if you have a preference. We recommend using our official cover to optimize the benefits of our pillow. In addition, our covers are uniquely fit to hug each SkinnyPillow, giving it a nice tapered look.

Does SkinnyPillow offer any warranty?

Yes, we offer a lifetime warranty covering material damage on the pillow done under correct use or manufacturer defect. The warranty only applies for SkinnyPillows purchased directly from the company.
